Change, in an Attosecond Epiphany on Father’s Day
“Any change, no matter how long the process of cultivation, occurs in an attosecond.” John Welch
A M o m e n t I n T i m e Traveling eastbound through Mt. Prospect with my family in anticipation of Custer’s Last Stand, a street festival in Evanston, we entered an intersection at approximately 30 miles per hour. Over the course of what I describe as an attosecond (one quintillionth of a second) a white sedan appeared on a collision course for my door. Shriek...SMASH! An SUV traveling westbound, as if our bodyguard, crushed into the front quarter panel of this errant driver and both vehicles spun to a stop in the space we previously occupied. F i g h t o r F l i g h t The collision left the sedan and SUV with significant damage, but thankfully everyone was healthy. The results may have been significantly worse should the SUV had squared-up on the driver’s door. Our car was left untouched. My nature would have been to stop immediately, but strangely enough I just kept rolling along when I noticed everyone was conscious in the rearview mirror. I spoke with the Mt. Prospect Police the next day to confirm the safety of everyone involved. I was about two miles down the road when I posed the question to myself, “Why did I keep driving?” I believe it had to do with my fight or flight system. The experience was intensely surreal, to be engulfed by the sound and to feel the vibration of the impact literally a few feet outside my window. It was as if I was out-of-body, like my soul separated from my physical self and I was set to autopilot. W h y A r e Y o u H e r e? As we continued our trip to Evanston, reflecting on the ‘what if’ scenarios, I began to think about how much different our day would have been should the SUV had been anywhere else but there, at that exact moment. I pushed aside all negative images and began to think about ‘change’ relative to an occurrence. We can all site examples, personally or as a community, how an event ’changes everything’. The question I kept asking was, “Is there a relative nature to the occurrence and the subsequent process of change?” Let’s bring this example into the field of health and wellness. I am witness to this process all the time. Someone walks into my life with a goal, for instance, to lose weight and get in shape. They all have a unique story and reason for this initiative. Apply the bell shaped curve now; some may seem almost flippant in nature while others are narrowed in their resolve. Most are somewhere in between. The question always comes down to “Why are you here?” T h e W h y I s I n T h e A t t o s e c o n d One definition I found states that an attosecond is relative to a second as a second is relative to the age of our Universe. Technically, an attosecond is crazy fast. The attosecond of a car crash can create a sequence of events for an individual. They may have physical distress or psychological and emotional trauma. Depending on the severity, the ripple effect of that specific moment in time may force a person to reinvent everything about themselves. Similarly, the person that decides to push forward in search of wellness came from a specific moment, or an attosecond. They may have kicked the idea around for a while, but there was a point where they said, “I am getting off my butt and will become healthy!” For some, they go out and buy a membership to the gym and never return the entire year. I would say their attosecond of change was like a pebble bouncing up into their mud guard. This person needs to form a relationship with their ‘why’. Then there are the people that have a look of calm insight in their eye. They are ready to listen and willing to adapt. They know deep down inside that their path has begun and will ultimately form into reality. This person’s attosecond of change had the mental equivalent of a car crash in answering their ‘why’, they narrowed their intentions at that specific moment and success is only a matter of time. T h e S w e e t S p o t It is essential to find the deepest ‘why’ in order to generate a powerful enough attosecond to manifest your vision. Set your vibrational energy to genuinely feel the success of the journey as if already completed. Maintain the momentum of the wave while respecting the biological requirements for your body to regenerate with purpose. If you push too hard you will find resistance shall halt your progress. On the contrary, too little involvement will bring about complacency and misdirection. Get into the groove that allows you to cultivate your intentions, find the sweet spot and proceed with happiness.
